Overview

This 5-day Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Holiday takes you on a wonderful trip to see classic savannah wildlife and mountain gorillas.

You will see savannah wildlife such as elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, and more, as well as the endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi.

The trip starts from Kampala and goes to Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will see the animals on a game drive as well as a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel. You will then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will hike through the thick forest for your encounter with one of the habituated gorilla families in the park.

You will end your trip by driving back to Kampala with interesting stops along the way.

Detailed Itinerary

Here is the full day-by-day itinerary for this tour

Day 1: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your tourist driver/guide will pick you up from Kampala at your accommodation/place of residence and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (approx. 8-9hrs).

You will pass through Fort portal town with lush green countryside following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey.

Day 2:Wildlife Game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will find an abundance of wildlife in this park plus grassy plains, tropical forests, rivers, crater lakes, and much more.

An early morning game drive within the park will provide excellent opportunities to see lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants,  waterbuck, Uganda kob, Topi, and bushbuck. Return to your lodge for Lunch.

In the afternoon, your guide will take you for a 2-3 hour boat cruise on the famous Kazinga channel, a perfect chance to take as many photos as you want while birding. Big herds of hippos, buffaloes, and elephants.

The park has prolific birdlife and boosts with over 600 bird species.

Day 3:Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will drive to Bwindi in southwestern Uganda (approx. 7 hours) passing through the terraced hillsides, with farms & households in Kabale, also known as the “Switzerland of Africa” winding your way down to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ready for gorilla tracking the next day.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

It is gorilla tracking day and you will wake up early to have breakfast and be at the park offices at 7:30 am. You will be briefed by the Park rangers on all the procedures before you can start your trek.

In groups of 8 and the rangers, you will go into the forest in search of the mountain gorillas that call this dense rainforest home. Whereas the gorilla trek can be quite challenging, meeting the gorillas will make all that sweat certainly worth it.

Upon finding the mountain gorillas, you will spend one (1) hour with them after which you will be led back to the starting point by the park ranger. The gorilla is a shy and peaceful animal and it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact.

You will spend your afternoon relaxing at the lodge and enjoying the views of the forest.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala

Today your guide will transfer you back to Kampala (approx. 9 hours), with a stop-over at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers where you will be able to watch ceremonial drums being crafted using methods passed down through generations.

There will also be time to stop at the equator for photographs. You arrive in Kampala in the early evening which marks the end of your holiday.

This will mark the end of your 5-day Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife holiday.
