Bwindi Gorilla Haven is located in a Ryarutagara Spectacular Spot in Kisoro District, south western Uganda. Ryarutagara means a hill and the lodge sits on a hill with a spectacular view of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the home of the famous mountain gorillas, and within sight and earshot of the Mashoho River.
It is nestled under a bright canopy of stars and due to its location next to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, you can always stay here for the night after your Gorilla Trekking Safari. Bwindi Gorilla Haven suits a standard or mid-range budget and their rooms are quite affordable.
The lodge has got a bar & restaurant which serves meals prepared by the chefs. The rooms at Bwindi Gorilla Haven are well arranged with bathrooms and also have mosquito nets.
If flying from Entebbe it takes about 50 minutes to Kihihi airstrip or alternatively by road through Mbarara & Kabale which will take around 9 hours to get to Bwindi Gorilla Haven from Kampala city.
There are several small village communities around the lodge & most nights the lodge arranges cultural encounters & experiences for their guests. The property on which Bwindi Gorilla Haven sits was acquired by Bishop Enoch Kayeeye in 1964.
The land was formerly occupied by migrants for many years. At the time of the purchase, Enoch planted trees that have been recently harvested for timber and construction at Bwindi Gorilla Haven.
A giant Karituusi tree stands sentinel marking the boundary of the property, as it has for more than 50 years.
