The Landscape

The park is called “Impenetrable,” due to the thick and dense vegetation that can make it difficult to navigate.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has some of Africa’s most scenic landscapes characterized by towering ancient trees, cascading waterfalls and dense undergrowth of ferns, vines, and shrubs spread over a series of steep hills and valleys.

The lush greenery provides a stark contrast to the surrounding savannas and is an ideal destination for those in search of a unique and immersive natural experience.

Wildlife

Bwindi’s rich biodiversity also features a diverse range of animals with over 120 species of mammals, 350 species of birds, and 220 species of butterflies.

The forest is home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population, making it a prime destination for gorilla trekking. Bwindi is also home to several other primate species, including chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and blue monkeys.

Apart from gorillas and other primates, Bwindi is also home to various other mammals such as forest elephants, giant forest hogs, forest buffaloes, and several species of duikers.

Some notable bird species found here include the African green broadbill, bar-tailed trogon, and the unique African forest elephant.

Bwindi also hosts a variety of reptiles and amphibians, including chameleons, frogs, and many snake species.
