Tanzania’s official airline carrier Air Tanzania resumed flights to Entebbe international airport – Uganda’s main airport in August 2018. It also resumed flights to Bujumbura Burundi which are all within the East African region.
The CEO Air Tanzania Company Limited Mr. Ladislaus Matindi issued a statement in Dar es salaam, Tanzania about this move. Air Tanzania will have four routes to Entebbe per week which are on; Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. These will connect passengers from Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania plus other towns of Arusha and Kilimanjaro.
Mr. Matindi, quoted that “The wings of Kilimanjaro is proud once again to have an opportunity to serve East African cities with a direct flight and smooth connection to Tanzania.”
He also added that the move will strengthen the existing trade and commercial ties between some East African countries i.e. Tanzania, Uganda & Burundi.
The flight to Entebbe will depart Dar es Salaam Tanzania at 09:30 hrs and arrive EBB airport at 11:55hrs via Kilimanjaro. It will then depart Entebbe at 12:55 hrs. and arrive DAR at 14:50hrs via Kilimanjaro once again. Air Tanzania will fly three times a week to Bujumbura on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday connecting passengers in Kilimanjaro and Kigoma.
Departing DAR at 09:30hrs, Air Tanzania will arrive Bujumbura at 11:40hrs via Kigoma and will depart BJM at 12:10hrs then arrive DAR at 16:20hrs via Kigoma still. ATCL provides daily routes up-to 11 destinations giving Tanzania a huge market and 3 times a week to Hahaya – Comoro.
Mr. Matindi hopes to improve Air Tanzania and extend the wings of Kilimanjaro over Africa and beyond. This move will in the nearby future add value to the investment trade and tourism opportunities presented by the resumption of these flights. This also provides affordable connection between Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi.
ATCL later this year will be flying to Mumbai (India), Johannesburg (South Africa), Bangkok (Thailand) and Guangzhou (China) via Dar es Salaam.
